The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait operates a dedicated Emergency Assistance Unit to support Sri Lankan workers facing abuse, exploitation, unsafe working conditions, or any other emergency situation. You are not alone — help is available.

Emergency Shelter

If you are a Sri Lankan worker facing abuse, unsafe living conditions, or have escaped from an exploitative employer, the Embassy can provide emergency shelter and protection.

Embassy Shelter Services

  • Safe and secure temporary accommodation at the Embassy premises
  • Food and basic necessities provided during your stay
  • Separate, private facilities for women and families
  • Access to Embassy welfare officers and counsellors
  • Assistance with contacting family members in Sri Lanka

Who Can Access Shelter?

  • Workers who have escaped abusive employers
  • Domestic workers in danger or facing exploitation
  • Workers whose accommodation has been terminated without notice
  • Individuals awaiting repatriation to Sri Lanka
  • Any Sri Lankan national in immediate need of safe housing

Legal Aid & Representation

Workers facing legal proceedings, arrest, detention, or labour disputes have the right to legal representation. The Embassy facilitates access to legal aid for those who cannot afford private legal counsel.

  • Guidance on filing complaints with Kuwaiti labour authorities
  • Embassy representation during police interviews (where permitted)
  • Assistance with document preparation for court proceedings
  • Translation and interpretation support during legal proceedings
  • Coordination with SLBFE for financial support in legal cases

If you have been arrested or detained, you have the right to consular access. Demand that police contact the Sri Lankan Embassy immediately. This is your right under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

Medical Assistance

Sri Lankan workers who have suffered physical harm, illness, or are in need of medical care can receive support through the Embassy's emergency welfare network.

Hospital Coordination

The Embassy coordinates with Kuwaiti hospitals to ensure Sri Lankan workers receive necessary medical treatment, including follow-up with employer insurance.

Work Injury Claims

Workers injured on the job are entitled to compensation under Kuwaiti law. The Embassy assists in pursuing employer liability and insurance claims.

Mental Health Support

Counselling and psychological support services are available for workers who have experienced trauma, abuse, or distress during their employment.

In the event of a medical emergency, call Kuwait Emergency Services: 112. Then contact the Embassy emergency hotline so we can coordinate support and notify your family.
