Registration of vital events for Sri Lankan nationals in Kuwait
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait provides civil registration services for Sri Lankan nationals residing in Kuwait. Registration of vital events ensures your legal status and that of your family is properly recorded with Sri Lankan authorities.
Birth Registration
Children born to Sri Lankan nationals in Kuwait must be registered with the Embassy to obtain Sri Lankan citizenship and a birth certificate. Registration should be completed within one year of birth.
Required Documents
- Original hospital birth certificate (issued in Kuwait)
- Certified Arabic-to-English translation of the birth certificate
- Valid passports of both parents (originals and photocopies)
- Sri Lankan birth certificates of both parents
- Marriage certificate of the parents (Sri Lankan or internationally recognised)
- Completed birth registration application form
- Two recent passport-size photographs of the child
Note: Late registration (after one year) may require additional documentation and approval from the Registrar General's Department in Sri Lanka.
Marriage Registration
Sri Lankan nationals who have been married in Kuwait can register their marriage at the Embassy. This registration is essential for legal recognition of the marriage in Sri Lanka and for family-related administrative processes.
Required Documents
- Original Kuwait marriage certificate
- Certified Arabic-to-English translation of the marriage certificate
- Valid passports of both spouses (originals and photocopies)
- Birth certificates of both spouses
- Single status certificates (if previously unmarried) or divorce/death certificates
- Two witnesses' national identity documents
- Completed marriage registration application form
- Two recent passport-size photographs of each spouse
Death Registration
In the unfortunate event of a Sri Lankan national passing away in Kuwait, the death must be registered at the Embassy. The Embassy will assist the family in all necessary procedures including documentation for repatriation of remains to Sri Lanka.
Required Documents
- Original Kuwait death certificate issued by the Ministry of Health
- Certified Arabic-to-English translation of the death certificate
- Valid passport of the deceased (original)
- Sri Lankan National Identity Card of the deceased (if available)
- Passport or NIC of the next of kin or applicant
- Police clearance (if death is non-natural or under investigation)
- Completed death registration application form
