Registration of Marriage
This mission is pleased to assist you to register your marriage under the Marriage Registration Ordinance of 1988
If one party is a Sri Lankan national, He/she can submit an application to register the marriage.
Conditions applicable
- Both parties should be 18 years old or above as at their last birthday.
- The parties should not have any kind of relationship prohibited in law.
- No party should have entered into any legal marriage which is valid at the time.
Required Documents
(Please submit 01 set of photocopies for supportive documents excluding Application/Forms)
- Notice of Marriage (Please Click)
- Declaration (Please Click)
- Birth Certificates of both parties
- Copies of Bio-Data Page and observations page of valid Passports of both Parties
- Bachelor Certificate by both parties
- If he/she is a Sri Lankan, an affidavit should be given by his/her parents, siblings to the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Colombo 01 for authentication.(Please Click)
- If he/she is a non-Sri Lankan, this should be obtained from the relevant foreign government authority.
Procedure
- Marriage notice should be written in duplicate and handed over to the Consulate at least 14 days before the marriage.
- Marriage Notice will be displayed in the Notice board of Consulate for any objections for 14 days.
- If there are no objections marriage will be registered in the Consulate. Two witnesses should be accompanied along with photo identification.
Instructions
- Translations will not be accepted in lieu of originals.
- All photocopies should be on A4 size paper.
