Services to Sri Lankan Citizens

Eligibility

A Sri Lankan citizen by descent or by registration can apply for a Sri Lankan Passport.

Ordinary passports are valid for 10 years from the date of issuance except endorsement. A new passport should be obtained prior to the expiry of 10 years from the date of issue, or if there are no pages for visa endorsements.

Applicants are advised to apply for the new passports 2 and half years before expiry of existing passport with all required documents below, as the Kuwaiti Government requires 2 years validity to endorse visa.

Documents Required:

1. Issuance of New Passport in lieu of a current / expired passport

When applying for a new passport, please complete form K and return it to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait together with the following documents;

2. If the applicant is a child under 16 years – Apply for the first time

The following documents are required:

• Duly completed application form (Form K). Fill out the application by using English Block Letter – Download application here https://www.immigration.gov.lk/content/files/applications/new_om_application_form.pdf
• Current passport (Original)
• Birth certificate issued by the Sri Lankan Embassy or Consular Birth Certificate
• Citizenship certificate or Payment receipt of citizenship certificate
• Passports of parents (Original)
• Consent letter signed by parents for the issue of a separate passport for the child

Passport charges for all countries is KD 39/- (below 3 years) and above KD 48/-

Note: The original documents will be returned in the same day.

The following documents are required:

• If have copy of the data page of the passport the Passport fee is KD 113/-
• If don’t have the data page of the passport the Passport fee is KD 144/-

Note:  A passport has been reported lost or stolen can no longer be used for travel.  The details of cancellation will be automatically shared worldwide through INTERPOL to avoid misuse.  Never use the lost passport again.  You are strongly advised to obtain a new passport immediately to avoid inconvenience.

5. Other Endorsements to Passports / Change of Name and Designation

Endorsements to ‘N’ series passports will be done by the Department of Immigration after all necessary documents have been submitted through the Embassy.

A Sri Lankan passport holder may apply for amendments of the data included in his/her passport and if the request is accepted by the Department, all such amendments will be included in the observation and alterations page. 

If the Applicant need to include details of the data page of new passport;

Documents Required:

1. Duly completed application form (Form ‘O’). Fill the application using English Block Letters – (Download Application Here).

2. Original Sri Lankan Passport

3. Documentary evidence to prove the accuracy of the alteration or amendment

4. Profession:

If the profession needs high level of qualifications e.g., Doctor, Engineer, Accountant, Quantity surveyor, etc.…… – the applicant must provide educational qualification or professional membership status

For other executive professions – a service letter should be provided

Name, Bate of Birth and Birth place to be included -Fresh Birth Certificate copy with the amendments

Name after marriage -Marriage certificate

Foreign language documents should be submitted along with English translation.

6. Emergency Passports

An Emergency Passport (None Machine Readable Passport – NMRP) is issued for expired passport or persons who have lost their passports but have already applied for a new passport or have not received it in due course to return to Sri Lanka.

Required Documents for issuance on an Emergency Passport:

• A personal request letter from the applicant explaining the reason for Emergency Passport
• Duly filled Form K
• Photos -Two color (blue color background) photographs, Photo size 4.5cmX 3.5cm,Please attach clear, fresh photographs with full front face, without spectacles, both ears visible, without covering face by hair and without caps and badges, Photographs should be taken within 03 months, Should not be gloss or semi-gloss

• The previous travel document, if available, If not
• Copies of the data page and observation page of the previous passport or any document which can be used to prove applicant’s citizenship status and identification (e.g., birth Certificate, National Identity card)
• If the passport has been lost the police report should be submitted
• Consent of parents for minor applicants (below 16 years of age)

Fees:

      * Fees for an Emergency Passport (NMRP) if the previous passport is available – KD 16/-
      * In case the previous passport is lost – KD 51/-
