Sri Lanka excels at the 4th Asian Under 18 Athletics Championship in Kuwait

The 4th Asian under 18 Athletics Championship 2022, the biennial continental athletics competition for Asian athletes aged 15 to 17, was held at the Ahmed Al Rashdan Track and Field Stadium in Kuwait City from 13 to 16 October, 2022.

The Sri Lankan contingent consisting of eight young athletes and three officials competed at the biennial Asian Youth Athletics Championship, which was the 4th Edition of the under 18 Asian Athletic Championship, along with the participation of over 400 athletes and staff from 30 Asian countries.

Of the eight young athletes from Sri Lanka, five of them were able to secure medals, making Sri Lanka proud. Officials of the Embassy and members of the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait cheered and supported the team during their participation at the Championship.

Kasuni Nirmali who took part in the women’s 800-meter competition, secured the 02nd place and was awarded a silver medal. Master Praveen Jayathilake and Master Avishka Teminda, who competed in the men’s 400-meter race, won 02nd and 03rd places respectively and received their silver and bronze medals.

In the men’s high jump, Master Deneth Anuhas and Master Lesandu Arthavidu reached 02nd and 03rd places respectively and won silver and bronze medals.

Technical Director of the Athletic Association Palitha Jayathilaka, Lady Chaperon of the team Imalka Neranjala Ranaweera, and Coach of the contingent Krishantha Kumara accompanied the athletes and assisted them in their successful participation.
